Turtle-watching, Great Barrier Reef

Written by: Bird-O

The grainy quality of this video is on account of it being done, initially, under a filtered red light that cannot be seen by the female turtle.

Loggerhead Turtles are one of the rarest and most endangered species on the east coast of Australia. This was a very special experience. Only a small number of people were allowed to observe the turtle, in almost complete darkness and silence, until she completed egg laying and had almost finished covering up the nest. After this, head torches could be used without risk of jeopardising the egg-laying process.
